About American RC Boats
Around 1998 I began designing and building R/C boats to deliver bait to the desired fishing holes on the Arkansas River. After seeing this caught by my dad’s friend, I wanted one too.
I moved shortly after and only tinkered with it occasionally. Then I moved
again to Indiana, with my full time job and met people who did gas. My first
gas boat was built as a bait boat. A week before the fishing trip, I started
adding the go fast parts and fishing as I knew it was over.
American RC Boats began as a small two man partnership. Myself (Zac Price) and a good friend started building gas boats in 2001 as a hobby. By 02, we began building the Comet hull and turned a hobby into a small business. 03 brought some health issues to my partner and friend so I bought his part.
I operated for a few months alone, and then my brother Matt Price came to help me with the business. Matt picked it up very fast and before long, he raised the bar on the quality of the hulls. Not only did Matt contribute to improving he had great ideas in hull designs. At the end of 03 we made the final improvement to the Comet hull. The Comet is a great boat to take to the lake and jump waves. We have had weed eaters all the way to 8hp 35cc QuickDraws in them and the boat does fantastic with any engine. Being happy with the Comet, we moved on to building a race boat. About the time we were getting ready to begin our first racing season, Matt took a great opportunity and moved to AR.
Early 04 I began running American RC Boats solo once again. After my first
season racing (04), I designed the Dart and finished it late 04. I had very
little test time before winter moved in, but I did see some needed improvements.
Beginning 05 I tested the Dart more and found it to be a great rough water boat
with a full mod weed eater engine to a mid mod Zenoah 260. The hull has allot
of lift to air out the boat at 40 – 50mph making it fast. I took a pro
version Dart to Dayton OH for the first race of 05 and took 1st place over all
with it. A few weeks prior to the Dayton race, I started on a new hull design.
I finished the first Vee-Rod the day before the Dayton race. The third time
on the water, I raced the Vee-Rod at Celina OH. The competition was fierce but
I still took a 3rd over all. I pushed the boat so hard on many occasions I expected
the worst, but the boat did great. So far, all I see are good habits from the
boat. At this time a few hulls are being built and will be tested this summer.
If I can call the Vee-Rod “done” I will move on to finish a catamaran
project I started last fall.
