What you are tempting to do takes lots of practice to get right. Take the time to do it right the first time, because once you lube the shaft it makes for difficulties. Take a Mapp gas torch (preferably) Propane torch will work, SILVER solder, and liquid flux. When you get the cable cut to length, heat the cable, and flux it. Only heat what you need, solder follows heat and will cause it to break if you get the solder too far up the cable. Heat it again and apply solder, with a rag, wipe the solder while hot. Repeat this step until the solder covers the area to be in the feral. Once you have solder on the cable, take the feral (on the shaft) and heat and flux. Heat again and melt solder in it about 1/3 full. Heat both, then insert the cable and cool. Put the cable in a drill and spin with sand paper to clean it up.
