Rigging a fishing pole for retrieving your stranded boat
(note: The wind is your friend when a boat is out of reach! Pick the side of the lake you will run from, it is so much easier.)
Things you will need:
1. Reel (preferably closed face with 20lbs test)
2. Rod (long heavy action 7' +)
3. Tennis Ball
4. 12" of heavy cord or small rope
Put two holes through the middle of the tennis ball. Then run the cord through
the ball and tie. Leave 6" of the cord and tie to fishing line. This
will prevent sharp props, rudders, turn fins, ect... from cutting the fishing
line.

Other methods:
1. This set up can be used without the rod and simply throw the ball. The rod will reach farther, but just a reel and rod will fit in a tool box.
2. If you have a local club, they almost always bring a retrieval boat.
A small hook or similar mounted on the nose of the boat makes it much easier to retrieve. You can snag parts on the back, but dragging it in backwards can be a pain.
